The aim of the "Teaching and Modeling GPT for Empathic Communication in Psychiatry (TEAMGPT-Psych)" project is to strengthen medical communication skills, the ability to change perspective and, last but not least, psychiatric training through AI-supported communication. At the core of this project are Large Language Models (LLMs), in particular personalized GPT (generative pretrained transformer) models that can serve as virtual tutors. In addition, students will gain a diverse overview of the use of various AI models for education, research and practice.
First, students are prepared for the implementation of the GPTs and the subsequent implementation of essential medical conversation techniques, which they can then practice using the models. By practicing these conversation techniques together with the students, "deep learning" takes place not only in the large language model, but also with the students.
The approach based on the so-called inverted classroom model (supported by the OpenAI Team Workspace, for example) enables a more in-depth and interactive learning experience.The modules, consisting of interactive online and face-to-face teaching as well as practical exercises, aim to sensitize students to ethical and legal issues in an interdisciplinary manner in cooperation with the History, Theory and Ethics (GET) department about the possibilities and limitations of generative language models using case studies.
An evaluation is planned to check the effectiveness of the program. This project will not only improve the quality of teaching, but also promote students' digital skills and ethical reflection.
