Farewell to professional life
Magdeburg University's Faculty of Medicine bids farewell to new doctors and immunologists for the future
On June 21, 2024, the Faculty of Medicine at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg held a ceremony to bid farewell to the new graduates of human medicine and the Master's degree course in immunology for the first time in its new lecture hall building on its own campus. A total of 30 newly qualified doctors and 16 specialized immunologists will make up the first part of the graduating class of 2024. Another part will follow in December. The "Ligamentum Vocale" choir under the direction of Nadine Duwe provided the festive musical backdrop.
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Daniela C. Dieterich, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, congratulated the young talents on their successful graduation and emphasized: "Today we celebrate your outstanding success and at the same time the beginning of a new chapter in your lives. We are proud of your achievements and of having accompanied you along the way.We find ourselves in a time in which medicine and science are constantly facing new challenges.Use your knowledge and the skills you have acquired to drive positive change in medicine and immunological research and beyond that in society, always keeping the well-being of patients and future generations in mind. Your time in Magdeburg should serve as a valuable basis for this and be remembered fondly."

Prof. Dr. med. Uwe Ebmeyer, President of the Saxony-Anhalt Medical Association, was among the well-wishers at the graduation ceremony.In his speech, he emphasized the importance of medical research disciplines such as immunology. He addressed the future doctors with the following words: "Dear colleagues, today is a day on which we celebrate your successes and share your pride. Stay curious and determined. In your profession as a doctor, you have taken on a special task based on knowledge, experience, trust and responsibility towards society. Always remember the values of our profession and that you have chosen the most beautiful profession in the world."
Of the 30 medical graduates, more women than men, more than half completed their studies with good or very good grades. The young doctors include three children from Saxony-Anhalt and one international graduate. Almost a third would like to start their careers in Saxony-Anhalt. Of the total of 16 immunologists, 3 are male and 13 female, who also graduated with good and very good grades.
