Graduates of Medicine and Immunology Farewell Ceremony

A new class of graduates in medicine and immunology completed their studies at the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in the summer of 2022 and was given a ceremonial send-off last week.

On June 17, the first graduates of human medicine and the master's program in immunology of the year 2022 were formally discharged during a ceremony of the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in the auditorium of the Hegel-Gymnasium. These 18 human medicine graduates and the 9 immunology graduates form the first part of their year, the larger second part will be discharged in December. After a 2-year break due to the Corona pandemic, the graduates were able to receive their graduation certificates in person.

Of the human medicine graduates, 12 are female and 6 are male. Among the young doctors, 3 are from Saxony-Anhalt and 3 are international graduates. The best graduate was Marie Mersmann with a final grade of 1.0. In the master's program in immunology, Nouria Jantz-Naeem graduated as the best graduate. Of the 9 immunologists, 3 are male and 6 are female.

Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Lohmann congratulated the graduates and emphasized in his welcome speech: "The last two and a half years were undoubtedly a special challenge for each of us. I am proud and at the same time grateful that you were so committed and willing to support us in all areas during this time and am therefore all the more pleased with you on your successful graduation. We wish you to continue on your path with success and to have fond memories of your time studying in Magdeburg." The welcome speech was followed by the ceremonial address, which this year was given by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Gerburg Keilhoff. During this event, the biologist - as well as gastroenterologist Prof. Dr. med. Alexander Link - received the teaching award of the Medical Faculty. The teaching prize for special commitment to teaching was awarded to Sieglinde Staak, a member of staff at the Institute of Physiology.

Prof. Dr. med. Ebmeyer, President of the Medical Association of Saxony-Anhalt, appealed to the young doctors in his greeting: "Dear colleagues, get intensively involved. We need many more young, motivated and committed physicians in Saxony-Anhalt who are prepared to represent their profession with self-confidence and also to fight for its rights and values."

The entire ceremony was musically accompanied by the choir "Ligamentum Vocale" under the artistic direction of Nadine Duwe.
