2nd Magdeburg Interdisciplinary Forum for Musculoskeletal Surgery
On March 18, 2015, the Department of Trauma Surgery of the University Hospital Magdeburg together with the Olvenstedt Clinic organized the 2nd advanced training event within the framework of the advanced training series "Magdeburger Interdisziplinäres Forum für Muskuloskelettale Chirurgie" (Magdeburg Interdisciplinary Forum for Musculoskeletal Surgery) initiated by Prof. Dr. med. F. Walcher and PD Dr. med. F. Draijer. This time the theme of the evening was "complex injuries and diseases of the wrist".
After the success of the kick-off event in October 2014 with about 200 participants from Saxony-Anhalt, we were again able to welcome about 150 interested people from all areas of medical care in the "Halber 85" in Magdeburg.
After a short greeting of the participants by Prof. Dr. med. F. Walcher, R. Rongelrath opened the event and gave a lecture on different treatment strategies for complex radius fractures.
Subsequently, Mr. PD. Dr. med. S. Piatek gave an excellent lecture on the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options of concomitant injuries in distal radius fractures.
This was followed by Dr. med. S. Hollenberg with a presentation on the complex wrist injury from the point of view of hand surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery.
With his lecture on rheumatoid diseases of the wrist, Prof. Dr. med. C. Lohmann introduced another interesting aspect to the discussion.
Finally, Dr. med. A. Mahlfeld explained the follow-up treatment options after an injury to the wrist and also addressed the difficulties in communication and expectations between the discharge clinic and the resident surgeon.
During the break as well as before and after the event, the visitors had time to visit the very interesting industrial fair and to inform themselves about the latest medical products.
At the end of the evening, the organizers invited the participants to a small buffet in a cosy atmosphere to get to know each other and to talk to their colleagues.
