Hemostaseology
In the coagulation outpatient clinic, patients with blood coagulation disorders are evaluated and treated. These can lead to an increased tendency to bleed or to thrombosis. The causes lie in disorders of the plasmatic coagulation system or in the function of the blood platelets.
Clarification is often required prior to surgical procedures, in cases of familial predisposition or corresponding clinical symptoms. In the case of severe blood coagulation disorders, e.g. hemophilia A or B, long-term treatment is usually necessary. To implement this at home requires a high level of commitment from all involved. Thus, the parents and later the patients themselves learn the intravenous administration of the vital medication at home. This requires intensive support and training. A hemophilia assistant is available. The care of our patients is ensured at all times by the hemato-oncological on-call service (24/7).
There is collaboration with other coagulation centers, e.g., within the Hemorrhagic Diathesis East Competence Network (www.khdo.de/home.html). The unit also participates in scientific studies, such as the German Pediatric Hemophilia Research Database (GEPHARD) study of the Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research (GTH) (NCT02912143).
